Novato-based Hennessy Funds received three 2010 Star Awards for excellence in mutual fund marketing and communications presented by the Mutual Fund Education Alliance, a national mutual fund industry trade association.

Vacaville-based Travis Credit Union was honored as the 2010 recipient of the Beacon Award from the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation. The award recognizes promising or exemplary financial education programs or projects that provide information to the broader credit union community and the general public.

Business Organizations

Chambers of Commerce in Santa Rosa, Napa and Petaluma have partnered with the Sales Foundry, a sales training and consulting company, to help members increase their sales.  The Sales Mastery Seminar Series, beginning in January, covers the entire sales process from lead generation and qualifying to presenting and closing the sale. The monthly seminars are open to the public.  Members of the Santa Rosa, Napa and Petaluma chambers of commerce receive a 50 percent discount.

Franchise Times magazine recognized Mr. Rooter Plumbing, which has a franchise in Santa Rosa, in its Top 200 list for 2010. This annual list ranks the top 200 franchises based on worldwide sales. Mr. Rooter Plumbing ranks No.186.

TriVascular Inc. in Santa Rosa was one of the 12 winners of the inaugural California Game Changers awards presented by the Governor's Office of Economic Development.

Food & Beverage

Weaver's Coffee & Tea, an artisan coffee and tea brand in San Rafael, is now available at Amazon.com. The company will expand its national reach selling 11 of its coffees at the online site.


Solano County retained its current credit rating by Moody's Investor Services. County leaders credited strong financial management and proactive steps taken to adjust to the prevailing economic conditions as among the reasons it retained the favorable rating.


Novato-based ET Water Systems Inc., a provider of irrigation control and landscape water conservation and management solutions, launched a mobile Web application for commercial landscapers and property managers to remotely manage and control irrigation water use on a range of smartphones and wireless devices including the iPhone, Blackberry and Android, along with the iPad and other tablets.

San Rafael-based Renew Computers received the November Sustainable North Bay Award from Assemblymember Jared Huffman for its electronics recycling efforts. In 2009 Renew Computers reused or recycled more than 630,000 pounds of electronic waste.

SPG Solar in Novato designed a rooftop solar installation in Tustin for Ricoh Electronics, the company’s first solar system project being installed outside of Japan.


Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary in Freestone, which offers Japanese-style cedar enzyme bath treatments, was named America’s Most Spiritual Spa by Spirituality & Health magazine.

Nonprofit & Community Organizations

Napa Valley Community Housing was awarded a $15,000 Community Development Grant from Rabobank N.A to develop affordable housing in the Napa Valley.


San Rafael-based ClairMail Inc., a provider of mobile banking and payments solutions, was awarded Celent's XCelent Award for Advanced Technology in the research firm's 2010 Mobile Retail Banking Solutions Report.


Foley Family Wines in Sonoma purchased Eos winery in Paso Robles, including trademarks, case goods and bulk wine for the Eos, Cupa Grandis, Lost Angel and Novella labels.

Darryl Groom, former winemaker at Geyser Peak Winery in Geyserville, in partnership with Treasury Wine Estates, parent of Beringer in Napa, will launch Colby Red in January and donate proceeds of a combined $100,000 to the American Heart Association. Additionally, the Groom family and Treasury Wine Estates will donate product for local American Heart Association galas that raise funds for heart research. Colby Red was named for Mr. Groom’s son, who was born with a hole in his heart and at the age of 9 received a St. Jude Medical valve, developed as part of a St. Jude Medical Foundation cardiac research project.

Selby Winery in Healdsburg launched Clean Coast wine to benefit coastal restoration through the Greater New Orleans Community Foundation.
