SANTA ROSA -- Advent, the largest office furniture dealer in the North Bay, merged with AAA Business Supplies & Interiors of San Francisco.

"After 28 years, we decided it was time to take our business to the next level," said Mark Burchill, owner of Santa Rosa-based Advent. "Our alignment with AAA allows us to significantly broaden our offerings."

In addition to office furniture, Advent will now be able to provide clients with office and janitorial supplies, coffee service, printing and imprinted promotional items.

As a result of the merger, the Advent staff was reduced to 15 from 18 because of duplicate positions.

However, the addition of new product categories will likely result in a staffing increase in the future, according to Mr. Burchill.

Mr. Burchill and his wife, MeL Konrad, founded Advent in 1983, with $8,000 and a used pickup truck. Advent grew to over $5 million in sales, and was the No. 1 office furniture dealer in the North Bay. The combined companies will do over $20 million in sales.

Advent will retain its ales and operations team and the Piner Road showroom it has occupied for 19 years, and will continue to represent the same manufacturers, including Allsteel, HON and Gunlocke.
