Sutter's Brotman takes on expanded role

NORTH BAY -- Sutter Health today announced that Martin Brotman, currently the president of its West Bay Region, will assume the new role of senior vice president of education, research and philanthropy for the Sacramento-based health care organization.

Dr. Brotman will continue to oversee Sutter's West Bay Region through the end of this year. The region includes facilities in Marin, Sonoma and Lake counties as well as two medical foundations and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He had intended on retiring at the end of 2011, but instead will assume his new role at the start of next year, according to an internal announcement by Sutter Health Chief Executive Officer Pat Fry.

In his new role, Dr. Brotman will work with philanthropy, education and research leaders across Sutter's network "to advance a system-wide philanthropy strategy for obtaining pubic and private grants, as well as physician engagement inf fund development and assistance in capital campaign fundraising across the system," Mr. Fry wrote in the letter.

Dr. Brotman will also work in conjunction with the Sutter's training and research networks to develop a strategy for enhancing graduate medical education and research coordination.
