The Meritage Resort and Spa has teamed up with the Clean the World campaign to help save the lives of children around the world. The Meritage Resort and Spa’s partnership with Clean the World will initially support 131 children with enough soap and 65 children with enough bottled amenities for an entire year to help stop the spread of and deaths from diarrheal disease and acute respiratory infections around the world. The Queen of the Valley Medical Center Foundation will host its 34th Annual “Day for the Queen” fundraiser on Friday, August 19, 2011, with the theme of “A White Diamond Affair” at Silverado Resort in Napa. Proceeds for the event benefit the Peggy Herman Neuroscience Center at QVMC, recently established through a collaboration with UCSF’s Department of Neurosurgery, and a donation from Tim Herman, a QVMC Foundation Trustee, in memory of his wife, Peggy.
The Martin-O’Neil Cancer Center at St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley announced it is the first hospital in the North Bay to offer prostate cancer patients the benefits of real-time tumor tracking during external beam radiation with the Calypso System. This state-of-the-art technology may lead to reduced side-effects by enabling physicians to more accurately deliver radiation to the tumor while minimizing exposure to the healthy tissue and organs surrounding the prostate. Calling, downloading apps and surfing the web on the Verizon Wireless 3G network is now easier and faster for residents and travelers in the San Francisco Bay Area thanks to a new cell site in Sausalito. The site expands 3G wireless coverage and capacity along Highway 101, Highway 1 and Tennessee Valley Road.
