SEBASTOPOL -- Former small business executive Mark Inman and family physician John Canova , M.D., were appointed to the Palm Drive Health Care District Board of Directors Wednesday night during a special session of the board.
Dr. Canova fills the seat left vacant by the death of Jared Dreyfus in September, and Mr. Inman fills the seat left vacant by the resignation of Dan Smith in October.
Both were appointed unanimously by voice vote. Both seats are up for election in November 2012.
Board President Nancy Dobbs, in voting for Canova, noted that the hospital’s medical staff was supporting him, and said the board could use a physician’s viewpoint. Board Vice President Frank Mayhew, in voting for Mr. Inman, said the board also needed someone with a business background.
Mr. Inman is the former president of Taylor Maid Farms, Inc., and built the start-up coffee company into a multi-million dollar corporation. Dr. Canova has been a family practice doctor in Sebastopol since 1985. He formerly managed the Sebastopol Free Clinic and is on the board of the Sonoma County Primary Care IPA.
Seven people had applied for the two vacant positions on the five-member board..
