Queen of the Valley Medical Center is celebrating the St. Joseph Health System Foundation’s 25th anniversary by awarding awarding “On the Move” a $25,000 grant for its work in supporting the Napa community. The amount is part of a larger grant totaling $200,000 that is being distributed to wellness and preventive care programs benefitting low-income families and individuals throughout California. Since its inception in 1986, the St. Joseph Health System Foundation - in partnership with and through St. Joseph Health System hospitals - has invested more than $200 million in support of communities in need. In Napa, the SJHS Foundation has given a total of $13.25 million in support of the Queen’s “Care for the Poor” programs and local non-profits that share a commitment to care for vulnerable populations. On the Move has been a long-term partner of Queen of the Valley Medical Center. A Napa-based non-profit organization, On the Move was founded in 2004 with a mission to promote vibrant communities by building and sustaining effective leaders and highly functional organizations within the public sector. On the Move, the Napa Valley United School District, and Queen of the Valley Medical Center have worked collaboratively to develop and implement the Napa Valley Parent University, a school-based program focused on helping parents gain critical skills in order to be more effective parents and leaders at the school level and in the community. Tavola Italian Kitchen is now open in the Hamilton Marketplace in Novato. Restaurateurs Anthony and Jon Paul Pirraglia, working with Chefs Rob Hurd and Ryan Favini, have created a menu showcasing modern Italian cuisine prepared with locally sourced and sustainable produce and meats supplied by area artisans, farmers and purveyors. Chef Hurd, who has worked with chefs including Daniel Boulud and Paul Piscopo, has long had a focus on local and sustainable cuisine which has taken him from Michigan to Paris, New York City, and San Francisco. He most recently held the position of chef de cuisine at BRIX in Napa. Chef Favini previously held the position of executive chef at AKA Bistro in St. Helena, and its second location in Pasadena. Earlier, as sous chef at etoile, the restaurant at Domaine Chandon in Yountville, Chef Favini worked with Ron Boyd and Perry Hoffman when the venue earned one Michelin star in 2009.
