Santa Rosa flights descend in May

SANTA ROSA -- Passenger volume at Charles M. Schulz--Sonoma County Airport decreased 1.6 percent in May from a year before, according to figures released today. 

While the the rate of growth was slightly off over the 12-month period, the number of passengers increased to 17,768 in May from 16,485 in April, according to data from Alaska Airlines, the airport's only commercial carrier.

In May 2011, 18,049 passengers flew in and out of the Santa Rosa airport.

In the first five months of this year, the airport accommodated 80,087 of the airline's passengers, up 1.4 percent from 79,018 in that period in 2011.

On June 4, Alaska Airlines started flights between San Diego and Santa Rosa, replacing service from Sonoma County to Las Vegas.

Through its subsidiary Horizon Air, Seattle-based Alaska Airlines offers flights to Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and San Diego from Santa Rosa.
