The Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa  hired Craig Tonks as its new national sales manager. Mr. Tonks will spearhead the resort’s mid-west association business and work in tandem with director of group sales, Roseanne Beals, on the California state and national association markets in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. With more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including 21 in the Napa Valley, Mr. Tonks has achieved annual revenue goals of over $2.5 million for the last 21 years.Insurance

Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company appointed  Paul Fuegner to the position of vice president, brand management.  In this new role, he will be responsible for maintaining and protecting the company’s brand as well as developing and implementing strategies that will enable Fireman’s Fund to further strengthen its brand. Mr. Fuegner will also lead the Heritage Program, a philanthropic program to support firefighters, and creative services team. Mr. Fuegner joins Fireman’s Fund from ViVa Beverages, where he served as the chief marketing officer. He also held executive marketing roles with The Griffin Group, SKYY Spirits and Diageo.

Heffernan Insurance Brokers recently hired Lisa Halverson to join its Petaluma office as a producing account executive, focusing on employee benefits. Ms. Halverson brings nearly 20 years of employee benefits experience to Heffernan, specializing in complex benefits issues and strong relationships with carrier representatives and clients. Her emphasis is on working directly with employers and providers to simplify complex benefits issues and ensure the most cost effective and innovative benefit offerings.Law

Financial services law firm Smith Dollar PC  announced attorney James S. Renaldo has joined the firm’s mortgage litigation practice.  Mr. Renaldo will head the firm’s office in Tampa, Fla. Mr. Renaldo joins Smith Dollar with more than 27 years of commercial litigation, mortgage, compliance, corporate, contract, securities, and real estate law experience.  He is licensed to practice law in Florida and New York.  He most recently served as the General Counsel for Quantum Servicing Corporation, a loan servicing company. Nonprofits 

Soroptimist International of Napa has elected its new board of directors:  Diana Short, the executive director for Community Resources for Children, has been elected president of Soroptimist International of Napa for 2012-2013.  President-elect is Debbie Goodman; vice president is Leigh Kriege; secretary is Karen Keinert; treasurer is Tamie Frasier; assistant treasurer Colleen Soares; senior director Roxy Phillips, Jr.; director Carol Cunningham; delegates are Eileen Perez and Ellen York; parliamentarian is Carol Smith; and  Brenda Roberts is on the board as immediate past president. Soroptimist  means  "best for women." Soroptimist club members are business and professional women committed to improving the lives of women and girls locally and around the world.

The Marin Symphony Association announced the appointment of Jeff vom Saal as its new executive director. Mr. vom Saal has served as executive director of the Quad City, Iowa Symphony Orchestra for the past five years. Previously he led the Fargo-Moorhead, Minn. Symphony Orchestra and Metrowest Youth Symphony Orchestra in Framingham, Mass. Mr. vom Saal earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he was a trumpet performance major.Wine

Derek Bromley has been appointed senior director of marketing for The Hess Collection, and will oversee marketing, hospitality and direct to consumer efforts for all wineries and brands within the portfolio, including The Hess Collection, Artezin, MacPhail Family Wines and Sequana.  He will also guide the domestic marketing efforts for the Hess Family Estates international wineries, including Peter Lehmann from Australia, Colome and Amalaya from Argentina, and Glen Carlou from South Africa. Most recently, Mr. Bromley led a team managing the luxury brands portfolio of Treasury Wine Estates.  Earlier, he served as director of sales and marketing for Lynmar Estate in Sebastopol, and as a brand manager for LVMH/Domaine Chandon.

Chris Hoel has joined Soutirage as Senior Wine Advisor. Mr Hoel will lead a team of wine specialists offering high-touch, concierge-style wine services to clients on everything from building and diversifying wine cellars to coordinating wine-focused events. Mr. Hoel joins Soutirage with a 20-year career in the restaurant and wine industry, most recently as a sommelier at Thomas Keller's  The French Laundry. During his tenure at The French Laundry, he was responsible for cultivating the award-winning wine list and contributing to the restaurants' Michelin 3-Star standing. Previously, he was based in St. Louis, where he held positions at Bellerive Country Club, Faust's at the Adam's Mark, Truffles, and Monarch Restaurant and Wine Bar. He is currently pursuing the Master Sommelier Diploma with the Court of Master Sommeliers. He is a certified specialist of wine with the Society of Wine Educators.
