SANTA ROSA -- Santa Rosa Community Health Centers recently opened its eighth location, Roseland Pediatrics, in the southwest area of the city, where the federally qualified health center said it now offers care for newborns, children and teens.

The expansion was made possible by a $500,000 grant through the federal Affordable Care Act, two local Rotary Clubs (Santa Rosa West and Santa Rosa East), a grant from First Five and from Kaiser Permanente. The clinic opened Oct. 1.

Services include an integration of primary care, developmental screening, dental hygiene, care coordination and mental health. The group of health centers is the largest FQHC in the region, with more than $24.6 million in revenues last year.

Roseland Pediatrics will also be a boon for children on Medi-Cal and for those who are uninsured, according to Medical Director and pediatrician Meredith Kieschnick.

"With the only pediatric specialists who accept Medi-Cal and uninsured kids in Sonoma County, we have patients from all over the county and neighboring counties too," said Dr. Kieschnick.

Roseland Pediatrics operated for 16 years as the Roseland Children's Health Center in about 1,000 square feet -- with no office or administrative space -- at Roseland Elementary School, located at 711 Stony Point Rd. Earlier this year, the health centers signed a seven-year lease for about 3,900 square feet at Stony Point and Sebastopol roads.

"We outgrew the overcrowded Roseland Children's Health Center site, which was built to serve only 700 children, and grew to care for more than 2,000 patients," said Naomi Fuchs, chief executive officer of the health centers. "Roseland Pediatrics gives us the potential to serve over 3,000 children."

The health centers said it expects to see 400 more visits per month at the new site, accommodating more than 14,000 total patient visits in the first year. Growing from 1,000 square feet to 3,900 square feet, increasing from four exam rooms to 10 and hiring additional providers and staff will increase care capacity by 50 percent, according to the health centers.

The new practice is fully staffed with board-certified pediatricians, pediatric nurse practitioners and other health care professionals.

Roseland Pediatrics will be holding a grand opening celebration at the new site on Nov. 7, 5:30--7 pm.
