Nine Solano County businesses were honored at the annual Spirit of Solano luncheon Dec. 6 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield. In its 17th year, this event showcases the exceptional recipients that have been selected by the Solano County chambers of commerce for their outstanding spirit and community support. The awards program was designed to emulate the spirit of Solano, recognizing the role chambers of commerce play in economic development and honoring those businesses who take an active role to improve the communities they serve. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce selected Marisela Barbosa of Monarch Engineers. Benicia Chamber selected Dennie Geltz and Frances Hurley of Printer Concepts Technology. On its 65th anniversary, The Ledcor Group of Companies, which has a construction office in Napa, announced a $150,000 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to be shared in Napa and 11 other cities across North America with Ledcor operations. Since its founding, Ledcor has grown to become a market leader in civil, building and industrial construction, oil and gas, mining, forestry, marine and air transportation, and environmental technology.Education

Bank of Marin announced the nine local winners of their third annual high school photography contest. This marks the third year in a row that Bank of Marin has worked with photography teachers and students at North Bay high schools to select images for the calendar. Students submitted close to 100 images, and judges at Bank of Marin made the final selection. This year’s featured student photographers are Ryan Scherer of Casa Grande High School, Lena Felton of Marin Academy, Angela Begg and Morgan Rich of Marin Catholic High School, Emily Rutherford and Emily Lane of San Rafael High School, Jackson Karlenzig of Sir Francis Drake High School, Amy Cogbill of Sonoma Valley High School, and Sam Gates of Tamalpais High School. Bank of Marin will donate $100 to each participating high school for the purchase of photography supplies and equipment. Sonoma Valley High School will receive an additional contribution, as their student’s photo was selected for the bank’s holiday card.
