PETALUMA -- Telecommunications infrastructure system and software developer Cyan entered a deal to jointly develop products that help service providers significantly expand capacity efficiently.
Under the agreement, Cyan and Bridgewater, N.J.-based Nistica would jointly build high-capacity linecards that provide multidegree reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexing (ROADM) capabilities. Nistica would combine its compact, optics-only versions of wavelength selective switches (WSS) with an intelligent optical layer to deliver single-slot integrated line-cards that provide 2-, 4- or 8-degree connectivity in emerging networks.
Nistica tapped Fabrinet (NYSE: FN) as the supplier of printed circuit board assemblies. Fujikura Fiber Optics Vietnam will make the linecard assembly.
Cyan’s Z-series multilayer packet-optical transport platform is currently equipped with WSS-ROADM modules. The addition of these next-generation integrated linecards allows carriers to expand in multiple dimensions: multidegree mesh nodes, capacity boosts up to 96 channels, and a grid-flexible architecture with 3.125 GHz resolution granularity that is unsurpassed in the industry.
