Tell us about yourself and your company: Development Plus Inc., our mission is providing a “Single Source Solution” for custom promotional products. We provide concept design, engineer renderings for manufacturing, manufacture process and sourcing, product testing and quality assurance through our Hong Kong office. In addition we offer global shipping logistics and even market strategies to maximize the results of the custom promotional items. Our Design Team, Factory Management specialists, Project Management Team, Logistics and Product Safety Team, allows us the diversity to accommodate the demands of our clients.

Is there a major accomplishment in the past year or so that you would like to share?: Within the last two years Development Plus, Inc. has dramatically increased our business though our Home Entertainment and Video Game Division. We specialize in developing Collector Series editions for Video Game market launch and unveilings, DVD releases, and box office debuts. This requires a highly skilled team with a greater amount of creativity and understanding of a diverse market audience. We have had the great fortune of working with the top video game, and home entertainment companies globally. This is truly one of the most exciting and successful areas of growth we have experienced.

 What is the achievement you are most proud of?: During the economic downturn most advertisement budgets were reduced. In addition, Development Plus, Inc.'s predominate clients were related to the pharmaceutical industry. As a result of government legislation pharmaceutical companies were banned from giving away promotional items unless they were for education purposes and FDA approved. As a result, our company experienced a 70 percent revenue decline. Through reinventing and diversification we have exceeded pre-recession revenues and retained all or staff. In addition, we are now recruiting to meet the demands of our clients and our resulting growth.

As a successful female professional, what were the biggest obstacles you faced and how did you overcome them? I never considered gender as a factor. I never let peoples' “no” stop me. The largest obstacles I experienced would be leaving my family for business travels around the world. It was difficult being away from my two sons. Building my staff in Hong Kong allowed me to reduce the need to travel to China as often.

How do you think your profession will change in the next five years?: The continual advancement of technology changes the way we communicate. As a result, the promotional industry must change with it. With the changes of communication the end users will be enticed in a very different way than they are in today's market.

To maintain a high level of success our industry must diversify to include not only the promotional products but overview of the clients overall market strategy and how it all complements the product or services offered.

Who was your most important mentor?: The most significant mentor to me is Bud Seith. Bud was instrumental in my ability to fully realize my capabilities and potential. Bud coached me for over three years. It was during that time I was able to break away from the many obstacles holding me back and gain the confidence of my success.

What advice would you give to a young woman entering your profession or the work world today?: You have to hold yourself accountable to your dreams and goals. There may a multitude of obstacles why you cannot be successful, but you must never allow them to stop your progression to achieve your visions and goals. You must always believe in yourself!

Most admired businessperson outside your organization: Steve Jobs. Steve never accepted “Cannot Be Done.” His perseverance and determination of his vision dramatically changed not only technology, but the way we communicate today.
