Four major figures in Napa Valley wine will be panelists at the Business Journal's sixth annual Impact Napa conference Aug. 29 at the Napa Valley Marriott.

The panel includes Peter Mondavi Jr., co-owner of one of the North Coast's largest and oldest wine producers, and Bruce Phillips, a grapegrower, two-decade veteran of food and consumer-products industries, and a leader in agriculture.

Mr. Mondavi is co-proprietor of St. Helena-based C. Mondavi & Family, which started in 1861 and produces 1.5 million cases of wine a year. With graduate-level training in engineering, he has been heavily involved in vineyard and winery upgrade projects.

Bruce Phillips since 2003 has been managing partner of Phillips Family Farming, which grows grapes on Vine Hill Ranch in Oakville and produces the VHR label. For nearly a decade before that, he was director of IT strategy for Constellation Brands. In the 1990s, he was director of expansion for natural juice company Odwalla. He has served on the boards of Napa Valley Grapegrowers and the California Association of Winegrape Growers.

Other scheduled panelists are go-to wine industry appraiser Tony Correia, ARA, of Correia-Xavier Inc., and Bill Harlan of Harlan Estate. Moderating the panel will be Richard Mendelson, an attorney with Dickenson Peatman & Fogarty of Napa.

A feature of the conference is a presentation by Economic Forensic & Analytics principal Robert Eyler, Ph.D, of a study on the economic and labor conditions facing the wine industry.

The sixth annual conference is to be held  from 8:30--11 a.m. Aug. 29 at Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa in Napa. Registration for the event costs $55 a person and ends Aug. 24.  To register, use the online form at NorthBayBusinessJournal.com or call 707-521-5264.
