Brad Baker is CEO of Codding Enterprises and president of Sonoma Mountain Villiage, a 200-acre planned mixed-use development in southeast Rohnert Park.

Q: Please describe Sonoma Mountain Village's history and vision.
A: Codding Enterprises, along with Ken Martin and his family,bought the property from Agilent in 2005. The vision is to build a mixed-use community. We intend to combine work space, residential, retail shops and services and recreational facilities into a fun, exciting community that embraces sustainability and utilizes the best in green/clean technology

Q: What elements of the project are currently completed?
A: We have over 600,000 square feet of commercial space in place, which is home to around 35 different businesses including AT&T, Comcast, Soligent, Innovative Molding, SoCo Nexus and the Northbay iHub.
Q: What steps remain before construction can begin on the remaining components?
A: We are currently in discussions with potential capital partners who would fund the necessary infrastructure such as sewer, street, sidewalks, parks, etc.
Q: How have economic conditions affected development at Sonoma Mountain Village?
A: Yes, in 2006 and 2007 the residential market was very hot and we were anxious to start on the residential component of our project. When the market collapsed in 2008, we decided to concentrate our efforts on filling up our commercial building, which has allowed us to survive the difficult times. Now that the residential market has shown signs of life, we are now dusting off our plans for the residential side.
Q: How have financing programs for renewable energy development had an impact at Sonoma Mountain Village?
A: We were the first commercial customer to utilized private funding using the Sonoma County PACE program.
Q: What role is SMART expected to play for Sonoma Mountain Village?
A: We are a half mile form the Cotati station and the bike and pedestrian path borders along the entire length of our project on the west side. We think that the train service and path will greatly improve our accessibility.
Q: What impact will the development have for Rohnert Park and the broader region?
A: We are very excited about all the great things happening in RP including the Green Music Center, the Graton Casino and Resort, Sonoma Stateas well as the other big developments that are in motion.
