Cambrian Innovation, a water and bio-energy technology provider, and Healdsburg-based Bear Republic Brewing Company, Inc., known for its IPAs and environmental stewardship, announced the unveiling of an EcoVolt water-treatment system at the Cloverdale brewery. The system uses a proprietary bio-electric technology to more cost-effectively treat wastewater as well as generate biogas for on-site energy. Bear Republic is the first brewery to purchase the energy positive EcoVolt system, which can significantly reduce the brewery’s carbon footprint.Business Development
North Bay Leadership Council welcomes its newest member, the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California. It is a nonprofit hospital and health system trade association established in 1961, representing 185 hospitals in 50 of California’s 58 counties, from Kern County to the Oregon border. For the first time since the Sonoma County Crushers ceased operations following the 2002 season, professional baseball is returning to Sonoma County in 2014 through the Sonoma Stompers Baseball Club. Owned and operated by Redwood Sports and Entertainment, LLC, the Stompers will compete in the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs, which shares a lineage with the Western Baseball League that the Crushers competed in. The Stompers will play their home games at Arnold Field in downtown Sonoma and will compete with the 2012 Pacific Association champions, the San Rafael Pacifics. The BayCal Lumberjacks, Vallejo Admirals, Na Koa Ikaika of Maui and the Hawaii Stars round out the nonaffiliated six-team league. The caliber of play is between Class A and Class AA of affiliated minor-league baseball.Health Care
Santa Rosa-based REACH Air Medical Services added a King Air Beechcraft 200 airplane to its helicopter all-hours ICU-level emergency air medical services in Southern California and surrounding states, operating from an airport in Thermal since July 2009. REACH has bases throughout California, Oregon and Texas.
For broad-based efforts to improve the lives of the most vulnerable members of its community, Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, a facility owned by St. Joseph Health, was named a finalist for the 2013 Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service, one of the most esteemed community service honors in health care. The prize is sponsored by The Baxter International Foundation and the American Hospital Association and Health Research & Educational Trust. As a finalist, Queen will receive $10,000 for community health initiatives.Media
Santa Rosa City Council has approved a new contract with CMedia, the recently rebranded Community Media Center of the North Bay, which extends its relationship with the nonprofit media center for an additional three years. The new contract takes effect on April 1 and is the result of an extensive collaboration between CMedia, the city and community stakeholders to create a self-sustaining media center to serve the people of Santa Rosa. Under the new contract, CMedia will provide an array of services to the city, including online marketing services to feature short documentaries on public programs. CMedia will also provide community media production courses and access to equipment as well as manage Santa Rosa’s Public, Education and Government (PEG) Access programming on local Comcast cable channels 26, 26, 28 and 30.Nonprofits
