Santa Rosa airport reports higher traffic in February

SANTA ROSA -- Commercial air travel at Charles M. Schulz--Sonoma County Airport was greater in February than during the same month in 2013, according to the airport's monthly passenger report.

Total passenger volume increased 4.7 percent, totaling 15,642. There were 31,345 passengers for the first two months of the year, up 4.6 percent.

Aircraft for the airport's sole commercial carrier, Horizon Air, flew at 73 percent average capacity during the month. Aircraft were at an average 69 percent capacity for the same month last year.

The carrier, a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, currently serves four destinations: Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland and Seattle. Sonoma County Airport is also in the early stages of a two year, $53.8 million project to lengthen and realign its two runways to comply with new federal standards.
