Sonoma County Economic Development Board is reminding small businesses of the California Competes Tax Credit, an income-tax credit available to businesses that want to come to and grow in California. Tax-credit agreements will be negotiated by GO-Biz and approved by a newly created California Competes Tax Credit Committee. Applications for fiscal 2013--2014 are being accepted until April 14. There is a special set-aside for businesses with revenues of less than $2 million.Education

Edelmira “Ede” Figueroa of Santa Rosa was awarded a $2,000 Dorothy L. Weller Scholarship. It's open to California women pursuing legal education. Ms. Figueroa began her studies in Empire College’s Specialized Associate Degree - Paralegal program in 2012 and will graduate later this year. In addition to her daytime classes, she is an afternoon translator in Empire College School of Law’s Small Claims Advisory Clinic, has begun working part-time for attorney John Hendrickson, and is the Empire Legal Student Association liaison to the Redwood Empire Association of Paralegals. She plans to intern with the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office Victims Services Division.Finance
