Independent minor league baseball club Sonoma Stompers signed former Sonoma Valley High School standout Tommy Lyons to a contract. Mr. Lyons becomes the first player signed by the Stompers in its inaugural season. Mr. Lyons, 23, spent 2013 in the Pacific Association with the then-named East Bay Lumberjacks. He was a key member of the first North Coast Section Championship team in Sonoma High School history in 2008, when his batting average was 0.321, with 30 runs batted in. Audubon Canyon Ranch selected Scott Artis as its new director of development and communications. Mr. Artis joins the Stinson Beach nonprofit’s staff after serving as the development director for the Sequoia Riverlands Trust, where he successfully re-engaged past donors, generated financial support from private businesses and won substantial grants to support the nonprofit land trust. Mr. Artis most recently was executive director of the Berkeley-based Burrowing Owl Conservation Network and was on the board of the John Muir Association. He also is a member of the Society for Conservation Biology, Raptor Research Foundation, American Ornithologists Union and The Wildlife Society.

Petaluma Arts Center named Holly Butler as interim director. The center’s prior director, Virginia May, stepped down in April after three years. Ms. Butler is a longtime Petaluma resident and experienced nonprofit director. Before joining the center, she was director of community relations for Petaluma Health Center, Sonoma County district representative for state Sen. Carole Migden and campaign manager for Rep. Lynn Woolsey. She also managed international conference logistics for an innovative regional nonprofit and government grant applications and reporting for COTS in Petaluma.
