ST. HELENA -- St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley has named Steve Herber, MD, as president and CEO of the Adventist Health-owned hospital, with responsibility for hospital and clinic services in Napa County and the surrounding area, including the hospital’s Center for Behavioral Health in Vallejo.
Dr. Herber has been serving as interim CEO of the St. Helena Region of hospitals, which includes St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, since October. As a part of the restructuring, David Santos, formerly vice president of operations for St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, has been promoted to president and CEO for the hospital and clinic services in Lake County. Dr. Herber and Mr. Santos will assume their new roles effective May 15, according to Jeff Eller, president of Adventist Health’s Northern California Region to whom the two roles will report.
“Dr. Herber has demonstrated a clear understanding of the Napa Valley community and a commitment to its residents," Mr. Eller said in a statement. "By placing a physician into this executive leadership role, we are doubling down on our commitment to quality and progressive health care. Steve is the right leader for this time and place.”
Before his term as interim CEO, Dr. Herber served as chief medical officer, senior vice president of medical affairs, and most recently, executive vice president. In addition to these administrative roles, Dr. Herber, a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in St. Helena for over 15 years, has held several medical staff positions including: chief of staff, chair of performance improvement, chair of credentials, chair of education, and medical director of plastic surgery.
“I believe this community and all who turn to us for services from all corners of the world deserve a health care system which you can understand and trust to deliver high-quality, safe, innovative and healing care,” Dr. Herber said in a statement. “I think we can band together and make the health experience something truly special in Napa Valley and beyond."
Adventist Health, based in Roseville, also operates Ukiah Valley Medical Center and Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits, along with hospitals, clinics, hospice and home-care agencies throughout California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii.
