Each year, North Bay Business Journal draws attention to companies, organizations and individuals who enrich help others in many ways. You can read profiles of the 23 recipients of the Journal's fourth annual Community Philanthropy Awards.

The organizations recognized with a Community Philanthropy Award at the March 31 luncheon were scattered throughout the North Bay, and are diverse in size and what they do. But each is helping in their way to help others.

At Touro University California, for example, about half physician assistant students or master's degrees candidates in Public Health eventual work serving underserved populations.

Those facing serious illness are delivered meals through the Ceres Community Project, which employees of the Soiland Company support with their time and money.

Speaking of time, about 400 Keysight employees in Santa Rosa take off four hours of paid time per month to engage in community volunteerism. It is much the same at Redwood Credit Union where staff volunteered 4,100 hours of time and benefited about 350 area nonprofits and community groups.

Napa's OLE Clinic, which serves the less privileged, will one day be doing so in a new clinic, largely through a $2 million donation from Trinchero Family Estates.

Meanwhile, the homeless facing a chilly night got warm clothing through the volunteer work from those at the North Bay Association of Realtors.

Each award recipient has a different way of helping, but all are contributing to improving the lives of others. They show that a business community which shares its success to help others is a strong community. The 2017 Business Journal and Exchange Bank Community Philanthropy Award recipients inspire all of us to look for ways we can raise our community to greater heights.
