Sonoma County Tourism President and CEO Ken Fischang has resigned, effective immediately, it was announced Monday.
Tim Zahner, the group’s chief marketing officer, has been named CEO in the interim.
“I have enjoyed many wonderful years of leading Sonoma County Tourism and establishing Sonoma County as a world-class destination,” Fischang said. “Thank you to our board of directors, our incredible staff, and to the 2,546 hospitality industry business partners who have been able to collectively transform Sonoma County into the great destination that it is today.”
Fischang, who joined Sonoma County Tourism, the county’s tourism marketing organization, as its first CEO in 2005, has been named executive director of the Saugatuck Douglas Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in Michigan.
“We look forward to continuing our mission of promoting overnight visits to Sonoma County while working with local stakeholders to sustain economic development through hospitality,” said Joe Bartolomei, chair of Sonoma County Tourism.
Sonoma County Tourism is a private, nonprofit organization that markets the county as a leisure, business, and group travel destination, representing 2,500 hospitality businesses. Tourism generates in excess of $1.9 billion annually for the local economy and supports more than 20,000 jobs.
