Novato engineer Dietrich Stroeh dies

J. Dietrich “Diet” Stroeh, president of the Golden Gate Bridge District, died Tuesday in his sleep. Stroeh, partner in Novato-based engineering firm CSW/Stuber-Stroeh, was 80 years old.

He had lived in Marin County for 76 of those years, and had served on the district board for 20 years, according to the district.

Stroeh also served as a board member of Bank of Marin, based in Novato, and as general manager of the Marin Municipal Water District. He also was a past president of the Novato chamber of commerce.

“I was deeply saddened to learn this morning we lost our longtime Novato resident and civic treasure Diet Stroeh,” said Judy Arnold, Marin County supervisor and also a bridge board member. She also worked with Stroeh on a downtown Novato Theater restoration project and on flooding issues in Novato.
