Benicia is new home of Yandell Truckaway, Santa Clara Warehouses

After seven decades in business, the Yandell family officially moved their trucking and warehousing businesses, significant regional players in moving and storing wine and related goods, to the North Bay.

The company’s official headquarters had been in Pleasant Hill, but the company has been gravitating north in recent months. Employing 100, Yandell Truckaway is a California Air Resources Board–compliant carrier and an EPA SmartWay transport partner. Led by John Yandell Jr. and his daughter Alicia Yandell Hamilton, the family company also operates SC Warehouses Inc., which has 1 million square feet of food-grade, temperature-controlled and bonded storage space in Benicia and American Canyon.

As of June 13 the company’s base of operations is Benicia, with Santa Clara Warehouses’ lease of 57,000 square feet at 360 Industrial Ct. The warehouser also renewed its lease of the entire 261,000-square-foot warehouse at 363 Industrial Way in the city. The company has stored wine and related packaging in 363 Industrial since 1998.

Company highlights in the past year include a big purchase of trucks and new software to increase efficiency. Yandell bought 30 2015 Peterbilt trucks, which reduce carbon-dioxide emissions. And on Dec. 14 Yandell went live with a new transportation management system.

“[t]hat will bring our organization to the forefront of technological advancements in the transportation industry,” Hamilton told the Business Journal recently. “Our new TMS will allow us to text message drivers and receive real-time status updates on our loads. We are very excited about this next chapter of our organization.”

Walnut Creek-based Cushman & Wakefield agents Tony Binswanger and Brooks Pedder represented Santa Clara Warehouses in the long-term lease deals. Binswanger, Pedder and Bo Harkins of the same brokerage also represented GLP, the owner of both buildings. Binswanger and Pedder have brokered 15 deals for Santa Clara Warehouses in more than 1.5 million square feet of space in Solano, Napa and Contra Costa counties since the mid-1990s.
