Describe the facilities you oversee: We are in a 100,000 square foot facility the has approximately 20,000 square foot office and lab space, and 40,000 square foot each for cork and cooperage (wine barrel production).
Tell us a little bit about yourself: Born in West Berlin Germany, emigrated to Vancouver Canada as a child, and then emigrated to the Napa California early in 2002. I very much enjoyed Simon Fraser University , (Canada), where I became interested in politics and very nearly changed careers and moved into government, luckily good sense won out and I remained in private industry. I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with my German Short Hair Pointer.
What do you see as the role of facilities managers within your organization?
Not allowing facilities issues to interfere with the daily operations of the company.
What is the achievement you are most proud of?
Winning the World Label Award for five years in a row as production manager for Tapp Technologies.
What is your biggest challenge today?
Balancing the competing needs and time frames.
What the next major project either under way or on the horizon?
Re-planning the work flow/manufacturing layout.
How do you think your profession will change in the next five years?
Continuing increasing the focus on sustainable practices/building/initiatives.
