Last year Ghilotti Construction Company donated more than $1 million to North Bay charities and nonprofits. The Santa Rosa-based general engineering contractor also provided additional funding to the dg Foundation for scholarships, for free and discounted site-preparation work for nonprofits and schools, local festival sponsorships and traffic-control support at regional sporting events.

“We partner with communities where we work and in areas we call home in several ways,” said President Richard Ghilotti. “Many of our employees volunteer their time and construction talents to perform in-kind groundwork. They also contribute hundreds of hours of service to a variety of North Bay nonprofit organizations and causes.”

The dg Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization established in honor of Dino Richard Ghilotti Motta, who died in 2013 at age 22, and Richard Ghilotti’s wife, Nancy, who died in 2015. The foundation is a living legacy and tribute to a young man with a passion for academics, athletics and the arts and also honors his devoted mother, Ghilotti said. It is dedicated to helping students with similar passions, by awarding scholarships at San Domenico Grammar School, Marin Catholic High School and the University of Miami, as well as by improving art programs and facilities in the North Bay.

“In the future, we plan to add more North Bay schools to the growing list of beneficiaries of dg Foundation support,” Ghilotti said.

The University of Miami awarded the first Dino Ghilotti Motta “Canes Care for Canes” scholarship to an art student from California last year.

In addition, the dg Foundation contributed $500,000 toward the renovation, seismic upgrade and improved access to the arts building at the San Domenico Grammar School in San Anselmo, where Dino developed his love for art. The building was renamed as the Dino R. Ghilotti Motta Visual Arts Center and includes separate Nancy Motta Ghilotti and Dino Ghilotti Motta studios.

Ghilotti Construction also completed site work for a reduced fee for Homeward Bound of Marin’s Oma Village, a community for low-income families.

The company worked with Sonoma County Regional Parks and donated $8,000 worth of message board to facilitate the construction of the Petaluma Hill Road entrance to Taylor Mountain Regional Park.

For the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County, Ghilotti Construction provided labor and equipment, valued at $10,000 to demolish old sidewalks and replace them with accessible concrete walkways.

In addition, the company repaired potholes on 113 miles of Sonoma County roads along the route for the Levi’s Gran Fondo mass start cycling event in October for 8,000-plus participants. The contractor also provided planning and execution support for traffic control - signage, cones, barricades, trucks and trained personnel - as well as arranged for detour route signage.

The company supported the Santa Rosa Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K Downtown Run. Staff engineers and other personnel dedicated more than 500 hours to the community in support of these events.

Other sponsorship activities include financial donations for the Butter and Egg Days Parade in Petaluma; the Mill Valley Festival and the Sausalito Art Festival.
