Sweat equity pays off in Santa Rosa

Nonprofit Burbank Housing turned over keys to new homes in Santa Rosa to clients who participated in a “sweat-equity” project, lending a hand in the construction of the residences.

Each buyer at the Catalina Townhomes project at 2740 Dutton Meadows in Santa Rosa qualified by meeting income requirements. Then, they contributed more than 2,000 hours of labor to build those homes, the nonprofit stated.

Each of the sixty-three homes is on its own lot with a private front patio and an attached two-car garage. The homes include many green features and components chosen to help reduce energy, water use, and protect the environment. The sixty homes average 1,500 square feet and the typical Catalina Townhomes household has between three and four residents, the group stated.

“We're proud to enable more Santa Rosa residents become home owners,” said Larry Florin, CEO, Burbank Housing. “Each of these residents has invested their hard earned savings, as well as countless hours wearing a tool belt and hardhat, to make their dream of home ownership a reality. Thanks to their tireless efforts, these are not just houses but homes where residents can create lasting memories.”

Burbank Housing has built nearly 4,000 affordable rental units and sold more than 800 affordable homes.
