Napa County Building Officials Coalition formed to help construction industry relations; other North Bay business news

The Napa County Building Officials Coalition has formed to provide better building department services with clear and consistent building code information and handouts for all Napa County jurisdictions.

Stated goals are fostering professional relationships with Napa County building officials and the building community, developing good communication between Napa County building officials and the public, striving to standardize forms and processes throughout Napa County, helping to locally train and educate the public and the building community, and working together to stay educated on all current Building Standards Codes and regulations.

California Secretary of Agriculture Karen Ross will be the keynote speaker at the 22nd annual Vineyard Economics Seminar (vineyardeconomics.com) on May 24 at the Napa Valley Marriott.

Ross, former president of the California Association of Winegrape Growers, will speak about the future of the multibillion-dollar industry, especially in areas such as sustainability.

Nat DiBuduo, president of Allied Grape Growers, and John Aguirre, president of the California Association of Winegrape Growers, will also give presentations. The event is sponsored by the Wine Industry Symposium Group, a subsidiary of Wine Business Monthly.

The Santa Rosa Junior College Career & Technical Education Department is hosting the second annual “Celebrate CTE” event to honor students who complete their career certificates during the 2016-2017 academic year. It will take place on Friday, May 26, at 5 p.m. on the John Surryhne Outdoor Stage of SRJC's Santa Rosa campus.

During the celebration, department deans will announce each certificate program. Program coordinators or faculty members, who will be seated with students, will award each student a commemorative pin designed by one of their peers. SRJC has over 150 CTE programs and departments.

Santa Rosa Junior College's graduation ceremony on May 27 will feature California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley as this year's commencement speaker.

SRJC's main graduation ceremony takes place on Saturday, May 27, at 10 a.m. on the Surryhne stage. It is free to attend, and tickets are not required. Parking on campus is free on that day.

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has accepted a $3.5 million award from the California Department of Health Care Services to support new initiatives to improve childhood dental health. The county Department of Health Services will administer and manage the grant program, titled Cavity Free Sonoma.

Ribbon-cutting for the new North Bay Black Chamber of Commerce headquarters will take place Tuesday, June 13, 5:30–7:30 p.m., at 3327 McMaude Place, Santa Rosa. RSVP to info@nbbcc.org by June 9.

This chamber is an organization comprised of local business owners, potential business owners, professional and business partners and alliances who are dedicated to promoting, supporting and enhancing all businesses, in particular black-owned businesses.

Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital's outpatient wound care clinic north of Santa Rosa and the outpatient physical therapy office on Dutton Avenue in the city has received Excellence in Healthcare Awards for being in the top 10 percent in overall quality of care, according to St. Joseph Health, which owns the operations.

Given by national health care research leader Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC), these awards are based on the percentage of patients who rated the outpatient service lines as “excellent” for overall quality of care. Both the wound clinic and the physical therapy office received a 5 Star Award for ranking in the top 10 percent in overall quality of care in calendar year 2016.

Crossing the Jordan finished refurbishing the former Zap building at Fourth and B streets in Santa Rosa for a thrift store. It's the seventh store opened in the five years since the group was founded.

Proceeds from its retail stores go directly to fund the organization's residential programs.

North Bay Science Discovery Day will be Saturday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sonoma Country Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. It is a one-day affair set to have over 100 booths of hands-on entertaining and educational exhibits.

Major area sponsors are Keysight Technologies, The Buck Institute for Research on Aging, Kaiser Permanente, Ultragenyx, BioMarin Pharmaceutical, Raptor Pharmaceutical, the Ratto Group, Toyota, Friedman's Home Improvement, and Soroptimist International of Novato.
