The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) District today released its passenger train schedule that includes 34 trips each weekday, with more frequent service during peak commute times.
The announcement stated the schedule is also timed to connect with SMART’s public transit partners, including Marin Transit, Sonoma County Transit, Golden Gate Transit, Petaluma Transit and Santa Rosa CityBus, to ensure a smooth and seamless commute. SMART’s rail service uses Clipper cards for fare collection.
According to its weekday schedule, the first south bound train would leave Sonoma County Airport at 4:49 a.m. and arrive at the train’s last stop in San Rafael at 5:56 a.m. On the reverse commute in the afternoon, the last train northbound would leave San Rafael at 6:29 p.m. and arrive the airport location at 7:36 p.m.
The first weekend train south would depart at 10:13 a.m. The last train north would be 8:50 p.m.
SMART’s train would allow commuters to avoid the Novato narrows section of Highway 101, which jams up every weekday morning and afternoon. After the trains begin normal operations, SMART commuter fares will average $13 a day round-trip, with electronic ticketing through Clipper cards
SMART is targeting a late spring opening.
