Roseland Public Schools in Santa Rosa has completed its purchase of a former Catholic high school for girls, it announced Thursday.
“Purchasing the Ursuline campus is the next step to establish a permanent presence and provide a high quality educational environment that will benefit more students from the Santa Rosa community,” stated Danielle Yount, principal of Roseland Collegiate Prep in the announcement. “This beloved campus will finally become a permanent fixture that will fully belong to the Roseland Public Schools community – one which our future alumni can be proud of and always return to.”
Ursuline High School closed in 2011. Its former campus has been the site of Roseland Collegiate Prep for its first five years of operation. The purchase price was not announced.
Now in its sixth year, Roseland Collegiate Prep currently serves 335 students in grades seven through eleven, and in 2017-18 the founding students who began their journey as seventh graders will become the school’s first senior class. The school population is 87 percent Latino, and 77 percent are eligible for free or reduced lunch, according to the announcement.
While the Ursuline campus has worked for the school community, its lack of being considered a permanent solution has meant that Roseland has needed to frequently renegotiate its lease to remain on the campus, the school stated. This solution will provide the school with a cost-effective, permanent home.
“It feels great knowing that Roseland Collegiate Prep will be staying on the same campus,” stated Timothy Lewallen, a Roseland Collegiate Prep parent. “My oldest daughter began attending in 2013. I now have three daughters attending and we’re so thankful for the opportunities this education has created for them. I’m glad that this option will continue to be available to students, on the same campus that will now fully belong to the Roseland community.”
The Roseland school district serves approximately 2,800 students from preschool through high school. Roseland’s schools include: Sheppard Accelerated Elementary, Roseland Elementary and Roseland Creek Elementary, which serve grades transitional kinder through 6th grade; Roseland Accelerated Middle School, which serves students in seventh and eighth grades; Roseland Collegiate Prep and Roseland University Prep, which prepares 9th through 12th grade students for college.
