After reaching decades-long lows in some counties in May, unemployment rates were up in all six counties across the North Bay in June, according to state figures released today.

All counties remain well below year ago levels, however.

Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino gained 0.6 percentage points, Solano and Lake gained 0.8, and Marin gained 0.5.

By category, the biggest job losses over the monthly were in government in Sonoma and Solano counties, down 900, and 300 respectively.

The biggest losses over the year were manufacturing in Sonoma, down 1,600, leisure and hospitality in Marin, down 1,100, and professional and business services in Solano, down 500.

Despite the losses, educational and health services made big gains across the board over the year, especially in Sonoma, adding 1,700 jobs over the year, 1,000 in Solano, 700 in Marin, and 400 in Napa.

Sonoma also gained 1,000 construction jobs, and 1,600 jobs in professional and business services.

In other industries, Napa made gains in manufacturing, which includes winemaking, with 600 more jobs, and Lake County gained 470 in leisure and hospitality for the year.

SONOMA COUNTY

The unemployment rate in the Sonoma County was 3.6 percent in June 2017, up from a revised 3.0 percent in May 2017, and below the year-ago estimate of 4.1 percent.

This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 4.9 percent for California and 4.5 percent for the nation during the same period.

The county tied with Napa for fifth lowest jobless rate in the state, preceded by Santa Clara, San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties.

SOLANO COUNTY

The unemployment rate in Solano County was 5.1 percent in June, up from a revised 4.3 percent in May, and below the year-ago estimate of 5.6 percent.

MARIN COUNTY

The unemployment rate in Marin County was 3.1 percent in June, up from a revised 2.6 percent in May, and below the year-ago estimate of 3.4 percent.

NAPA COUNTY

The unemployment rate in the Napa County was 3.6 percent in June, up from a revised 3.0 percent in May, and below the year-ago estimate of 4.1 percent.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Mendocino County’s preliminary June unemployment rate is 4.4 percent, up 0.6 percentage points from the May rate of 3.8 percent.

The year-over rate is down 0.4 percentage points from the June 2016 rate of 4.8 percent.

With the rate rise in June, Mendocino County rose from 15th rank to 16th rank (from the top) among the 58 counties statewide

Total Mendocino County industry employment grew by 250 jobs from May to June. The county’s industry employment saw no net employment change for the year-over. However, individual industry sectors saw change, with seven industry sectors gaining, one remaining unchanged, and four contracting.

LAKE COUNTY

The unemployment rate in Lake County was 5.7 percent in June, up from a revised 4.9 percent in May, and below the year-ago estimate of 6.3 percent.

The county dropped three points to 33 in the state.
