SANTA ROSA — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a new device by Medtronic, Inc., for minimally invasive treatment of peripheral artery disease, the company announced.
The new product also represents a major growth driver for Medtronic’s Aortic and Peripheral Vascular business, which is based in Santa Rosa.

SANTA ROSA — Cardiologists at two St. Joseph Health-affiliated facilities, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and the nearby Advanced Surgery Institute, recently implanted a new miniature cardiac monitoring device used to continuously and wirelessly monitor a patient’s heart, becoming the Bay Area’s first to offer the minimally invasive alternative to larger implants.

SANTA ROSA — Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) on Tuesday reported its Cardiac and Vascular group, which is based in Santa Rosa, reported global sales of $2.119 billion, an increase of 1 percent over the year.
The Minneapolis-based company as a whole, however, reported that its third quarter net profit dropped 23 percent, largely related to the discontinuation of a high blood pressure treatment that failed to make it out of trial.

SANTA ROSA — Shortly after receiving a $50 million injection in venture capital, Santa Rosa-based medical technology developer Direct Flow Medical, Inc. has made significant strides in reaching approval for its transcatheter aortic valve replacement system, including full approval in the European Union.
And as part of the ramp up toward full approval in the U.S., Direct Flow will embark on significant expansion, including doubling its workforce across the globe to more than 300, while seeking additional space in Santa Rosa to support research and development near its current 12,000 square-foot headquarters at 451 Aviation Blvd., according to CEO Bernard Lyons.

SANTA ROSA — Medtronic, Inc. (NYSE: MDT) today said it would cut 2,000 jobs across the company as a result of “manufacturing consolidation efforts,” while reporting that its Cardiac and Vascular Group, which includes operations in Santa Rosa, had worldwide sales of more than $2.3 billion for an increase of 5 percent over the year.
A Medtronic spokeswoman told the Business Journal that approximately half the job cuts will take place overseas.
