New project profile: Williams Selyem Estate Winery, Russian River Valley

Construction on one of Sonoma County’s most exclusive wineries started in September 2007 and was completed in phases over the past three years. The new winery provides more-efficient space for aging the wine and more scenic venues for hosting visits or events for mailing-list members, but some functions will continue to be handled off site.

New project profile: Ganau America cork facility, Sonoma

Ganau America is a subsidiary of family-owned Sugherificio Ganau S.p.A., Italy’s largest producer of cork wine bottle stoppers. In May 2008, Ganau America purchased 2.8 acres in Carneros Business Park in the Eighth Street East wine-related industrial cluster on the southern outskirts of Sonoma. At 40,000 square feet, the new facility is nearly double the size of Ganau America’s current location about a half-mile away and has four times the amount of laboratory space, according to Mariella Ganau, chief executive officer.

New project profile: Solano County’s Meyer Corp. automated storage and retrieval system

With steel racking 11 stories tall and weighing 11 million pounds, the automated warehouse Vallejo-based Meyer Corp. U.S. is completing at its Fairfield distribution facilities is one of the tallest buildings in Solano County.

Green project profile: Duckhorn’s Goldeneye winery in Mendocino

Duckhorn Wine Co.’s new winery in Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley winegrowing region has been registered with the U.S. Green Building Council for certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system for new construction, or LEED-NC. Verdier Architects, which has designed a number of boutique wineries, and Zach Rasmuson, Goldeneye vice president, general manager and winemaker, aimed project features to achieve “silver” level certification, which is the second of four levels in the LEED system. If certified, it would be the first winery to earn that distinction in Mendocino County.

New Project Profiles: Carneros Business Condominiums

Bill Saks brought together Willie McDevitt and Ed Brush, owners of Petaluma-based commercial general contractor McDevitt & McDevitt, and 10 other investors to build the industrial condominiums, which they call “iCondos.” It’s the first project to be built in the 53-acre Carneros Business Park.
