Nordby CEO leaves company
June 15th, 2010SANTA ROSA — Wendell “Del” Nordby III, chief executive officer of Nordby Construction Inc., one of the North Bay’s largest commercial general contractors, left the company June 1. His brother, Craig, is now president and CEO.

June 7th, 2010SANTA ROSA — Developer and general contractor Wendell “Del” Nordby III has emerged from U.S. Bankruptcy Court protection after creditors signed off on a reorganization plan for his personal finances.

May 24th, 2010Francis Ford Coppola had about 450 applicants turn out earlier this month for 130 positions at his newly renovated Geyserville winery. The number of experienced applicants, mainly in hospitality functions, negated the need for a second job fair, according to a spokeswoman. | The battle against the European grapevine moth has expanded to six California counties. | Healdsburg-based Ascentia Wine Estates, which started in June 2008 with more than $200 million raised from GESD Capital Partners of San Francisco and wine marketer W.J. Deutsch & Sons of New York, is now in a legal battle with the latter. | Recent crop reports underscore the larger 2009 winegrape crop in the North Coast. | Pigs will soon be flying through winery pipes. Named after the squealing noise made by devices the petroleum industry uses to maintain pipe interiors, these food-grade silicone “pigs” were devised by ARS Enterprises of Calistoga to move the remainder of wine between areas of a winery without water as well as clean deposits left in the pipes. |

Green project profile: Duckhorn’s Goldeneye winery in Mendocino
August 9th, 2009Duckhorn Wine Co.’s new winery in Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley winegrowing region has been registered with the U.S. Green Building Council for certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system for new construction, or LEED-NC. Verdier Architects, which has designed a number of boutique wineries, and Zach Rasmuson, Goldeneye vice president, general manager and winemaker, aimed project features to achieve “silver” level certification, which is the second of four levels in the LEED system. If certified, it would be the first winery to earn that distinction in Mendocino County.
