Accounting
Petaluma-based CPA firm Baldwin, McGaughey & Co. acquired Henry Taylor’s CPA practice. Mr. Taylor and his staff will continue to provide service to their clients at Baldwin, McGaughey & Co.’s new office location at 737 Southpoint Blvd., Suite K in Petaluma. An open house will be held on Aug. 17 at 5:30 p. m.
Arts & Enterainment
Under the aegis of the Napa Valley Artists Association, the Napa Valley Open Studios 2010 will be held the last two weekends of September, accompanied by a month-long exhibit and a preview reception at St. Supery Winery in Rutherford. At least 65 artists in a wide range of disciplines will be clustered into 38 different locations from American Canyon to north of Calistoga. A program catalog and map will be available soon at a variety of locations throughout the valley.
Construction
The city of Fairfield closed its bond financing for the Frank-Lin Distillers Products Ltd. construction project, working through the California Enterprise Development Authority to issue a $22 million tax-exempt Recovery Zone Facility Bond, proceeds of which were used to finance the construction of a $34 million, 288,000-square-foot building on 15 acres in the Tolenas Industrial Park. Frank-Lin was the first completed Recovery Zone Facility Bond project in California to go through the state reallocation process.
Green
San Rafael Assemblymember Jared Huffman will present his July Sustainable North Bay Award to Anaba Wines of Sonoma. Recently Anaba became the first winery in Northern California to utilize wind power with its installation of a 45-foot wind turbine to power its irrigation system, tasting room and offices.
Government
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said that beginning Oct. 1 domestic offices and U.S. territories will no longer accept cash payment. Eliminating the acceptance of cash will reduce USCIS operating costs. As an alternative to cash, customers may pay using checks (including personal checks), money orders and credit cards.
Nonprofit & Community Organizations
Pinnacle Homes of the North Bay donated land for homes to be built by Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County in Sebastopol. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Aug. 10 at 842 Litchfield Ave. in Sebastopol.
Technology
Roxio, a division of Sonic Solutions in Novato, launched Roxio Retrospect 8.2 for Mac, a key update to the company's backup and recovery software that allows small and midsize businesses to efficiently protect critical data stored on Mac, Windows and Linux servers, desktops and notebooks.
Wine
California’s Department of Food and Agriculture set the winegrape assessment at $0.75 per $1,000 dollars crushed value for the 2010 winegrape harvest on the recommendation of the Pierce’s Disease/Glassy-winged Sharpshooter Board. Winegrapes were assessed at $1.00 the two previous harvests.
