Responsibilities with your company: As a manager I lead a team of R&D and manufacturing engineers whose job is to invent, develop, and sustain integrated circuit manufacturing processes.

Greatest professional accomplishment: Being one of 24 company-wide employees selected to participate in Keysight's Emerging Leaders Program.

Greatest professional challenge: Transitioning from being an individual contributor to being a manager during the same timeframe that our twin daughters were born.

Best advice received: The best way to grow personally and professionally is to take on challenges outside of your comfort zone.

Single most important event in your professional life in the last 12 months: Being promoted from R&D engineer to engineering manager.

What steps is your company taking to sustain your organization and morale in the current economy?

Keysight continues to invest in our next generation technologies and in capital equipment to strengthen our manufacturing infrastructure.

Next professional goal: In the future I'd like to collaborate more with academia and bring fresh ideas from research to fruition.

Education: I have a bachelor of science and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Hometown: Santa Rosa

Mentor/admired business person: Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. It took incredible guts and determination to start a company in a garage during the Great Depression, but against all odds, they ultimately started the high-tech revolution.

Typical day at the office: Managing a set of constantly changing issues and priorities, helping motivate and guide the team to solve difficult problems, and lots of trips to the coffee machine.

Best place to work outside of your office: Outside the office, I enjoy working at coffee shops.

Hobbies: Spending time with my wife and three daughters, basketball, cycling, hiking, and snowboarding.

What you wanted to be when you grew up: A professional baseball player.

#1 thing you want to accomplish by the time you turn 40: Lead a team to translate an idea from concept to a product that's shipped throughout the world.

First job: My first job was in high school doing landscaping for a landscape and design company.

Favorite book: “The Innovation Mentality: Six Strategies to Disrupt the Status Quo and Reinvent the Way We Work”, by Glenn Llopis

Favorite after-work drink: Scotch
