Former Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo to be advocate for Burbank Housing

A former chairman of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will start a new job next month — community and government relations, as well as business development, for the nonprofit Burbank Housing.

In an announcement Tuesday, Burbank Housing stated that Efren Carrillo will 'be involved in a wide range of activities.'

'Residential rent in the county has increased 40 percent in the past four years and demand for our services is growing,' said Larry Florin, CEO of Burbank Housing. 'Efren understands the urgency of the current housing crisis. He has the knowledge, energy and innovative approach required to bring about much needed change.'

Burbank described its work as 'building quality affordable housing in Sonoma County.' It stated it has built nearly 4,000 affordable rental units in over 60 properties and sold over 800 affordable homes. Today, the organization has a waitlist of over 10,000 people for their properties.

Carrillo will start in his role on April 3.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Carrillo had joined the board of the Center for Climate Protection, a Santa Rosa-based nonprofit group focused on combating climate change.

He was elected to the Fifth District supervisorial seat at age 27 in 2008 and ran for re-election in June 2012, winning by a wide margin.
