Marin General ranked in top U.S. safe hospitals; other North Bay business news

Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae announced it was ranked as one of the safest hospitals in the United States by national nonprofit hospital watchdog The Leapfrog Group. According to new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades released Oct. 31, Marin General Hospital was among 844 hospitals out of 2,600 evaluated to receive an 'A' ranking for safety, which notes how well the hospital protects its patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Grade is calculated under the guidance of Leapfrog's Blue Ribbon Expert Panel and uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single grade representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. This score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.
Petaluma Health Care District (PHCD) has received the Jefferson Award for Public Service from the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. Established in 1972, the award is given to outstanding organizations and individuals who have had a deep impact on the quality of life in the communities they serve. Previous national recipients include Oprah Winfrey, Cesar Chavez and Jimmy Carter. This year marked the 10th anniversary for the Sonoma County Jefferson Award program. PHCD's Board of Directors and CEO Ramona Faith were presented with the award on Nov. 1. According to the district, it was honored for its excellence in community leadership and civic engagement. In particular, the Jefferson Award recognizes the district's leadership as an advocate and steward for community health and its focus on addressing social determinants of health such education, housing, food access and the economy. PHCD was credited for expanding its approach to community health as a lead collaborator with other health, civic and nonprofit organizations through shared resources and key partnerships.

The Community Child Care Council of Sonoma County (4Cs), along with hundreds of business and community leaders honored seven individuals at their 6th annual Champions for Children award luncheon and fundraiser. The event was held at the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club on Nov. 3. The seven 2016 Champions for Children award recipients express the values and principles of 4Cs by advocating and working on behalf of youth, the group stated. The honorees are Inspired Start: 0-5 Early Care and Education - Lia Thompson, Sonoma State University Children's School; Empowering Youth: K-12 Education - Nancy Ricciardi, Bennett Valley Union School District; Strong Families: Public Service/Agency - Cheryl Parkinson, The Living Room; Healthy Children: Health/Medical - Ramona Faith, Petaluma Health Care District; Secure Surroundings: Business/Foundation - Lisa Wittke Schaffner, The John Jordan Foundation; Positive Social Connections: Peer Leadership - Itzel Martinez, Community Action Partnership; and Community Engagement - Glen Weaver, Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County.

Terra Firma Global Partners co-founders Bill Facendini and Heidi Rickerd-Rizzo announced that the firm has expanded its Marin County presence by opening it first permanent office and hiring five new associates. The new office is located at 999 Grant Avenue, Suite 103, in Novato. The firm leased approximately 740 square feet on the first floor from building owner Umpqua Bank, an Oregon state-charted bank. The two-story office building is a total of approximately 20,500 square feet. The Sebastopol-based residential brokerage services company has six offices in Sonoma County and two in Napa County.

The San Rafael Chamber of Commerce has recognized a Marin businesswoman Melissa Prandi of PRANDI Property Management. She is joined by three other exceptional industry and community leaders: Joan Capurro, Ann Brebner and Patty Garbarino. Prandi was honored Nov. 15 at a 'Women of Industry' Luncheon and Marketplace to recognize successful women business owners, professionals and entrepreneurs in Marin County. Proceeds of the event underwrite the event costs, as well as add to our 'Women of Industry' Scholarship Fund.
