Meadowood wraps $60M renovation of St. Helena resort

Meadowood Napa Valley resort in St. Helena has nearly completed a $60 million renovation that includes redesigned guest rooms, a renovated nine-hole golf course and a new spa.

The new Meadowood Spa, set to open Nov. 2, was designed by St. Helena-based Backen, Gillam & Kroeger Architects, led by David Macneill and interior designer Leslie Hemmings. It reflects the surrounding landscape with simple, rustic-modern structures. Eberlin Construction of Napa began work on the new building last year.

The spa has eight suites, each with a private bathroom, steam shower and built-in seating in a lounge area in front of large sliding windows that open out to forest views.

There are two “relaxation gardens,” one for women and one for men. Each features sitting areas, steam room and sauna, and mineral soaking pool.

Local and international artisanal touches include a silk rug from Tibet and handmade pottery from Napa Valley ceramic artist Emil Yanos, handmade Shibori Rust Silk wall hangings from artist Patricia Vivod, and nature-inspired wood, steel and stone fountains also line the treatment walkway.

Each guest’s visit begins with an in-depth conversation with a spa therapist in the privacy of the treatment suite, which will determine a curated treatment plan for each individual. The suite experience will begin with a soothing signature tea and include a pretreatment experience with aromatherapy steam shower, dry body brushing or foot bath.

Treatments include a black walnut scrub and hot stone massage, a wine-based massage and facial, a detoxifying mud wrap, invigorating leg scrub and HydraFacial, and a five- and a half-hour experience with a customized scrub, wrap, facial, massage and specialty therapy.

Spa packages include lunch and private suite time for relaxation. Services begin at $225, and packages cost $595–$1,235.

Meadowood Grill Chef Victoria Acosta has designed a menu offering healthy options for guests to enjoy in their suites or in the relaxation gardens, including house-dried fruits from the Meadowood garden, nuts, grains; heirloom tomatoes with dandelion pesto, eggplant, couscous and cumin; sweet potato with Brussels sprouts, coconut and curry; lemon thyme with Mary’s chicken, bok choy and brown rice; cress, romaine and kale with Dungeness crab, Meyer lemon and ginseng, and elixirs such as carrot with ginger, lime and coriander.

A private, 250-acre estate, Meadowood offers luxury lodging, golf, tennis, croquet, hiking, swimming, spa and fitness, wine and a three-Michelin-star dining experience. Also a private club, Meadowood counts Napa Valley’s most prominent vintners among its members. Meadowood is also a member of Relais & Chateaux.
