The Epicenter is bringing a variety of multi-generational sports and entertaining activities together under a single roof in what used to be a 130,000 square foot warehouse located at 3215 Coffey Ln. in Santa Rosa.

This building will be revamped to house a virtual indoor sports and entertainment “mall” containing athletic and fitness facilities and entertainment venues along with dining, retail and gathering rooms.

Formerly an industrial remnant of another era, the remodeled building will be recharged with new life to support a wide range of recreational activities members of the community can enjoy year round, rain or shine, in the early morning, after sunset or even later into the night.

The revitalized structure will have a series of sports and entertainment venues and tenants, including: Sports City’s three athletic fields, a basketball, volleyball and a multipurpose sport court; an Anytime Fitness 24-hour health club; a retail sports shop, Rockin’ Jump trampoline club; Starbucks Coffee; as well as a Family Entertainment Center (laser tag, a hands-on 7D theater dark ride with wind, aromas and action seats, redemption and arcade games, Spin Zone (Bumper Cars), Ballocity and a toddler area).

In addition, there will be a pizzeria; party and banquet rooms, 12 boutique bowling lanes four VIP bowling lanes, the Victory House Restaurant and Sports Bar, along with a trophy room and an outside patio – plus more than 300 parking spaces.

The original warehouse was constructed in the 1960s at a time when Codding Airport was the local aviation hub on land where Piner Road and Airway Drive are today. With the airport’s departure, growth in northwest Santa Rosa has been dominated by residential homes.

“This site represents a unique opportunity to adapt and reuse this building to create a facility supporting the recreational needs of the region,” said Doug Hilberman, principal, AXIA Architects, which designed the new facility scheduled for groundbreaking on Dec. 7. “The architecture acknowledges the scale of the project and presents simple gestures to create a sense of energy and excitement.”

AXIA Architects created the design for Epicenter and Wright Contracting was the general contractor for this project. Carlile Macy Civil Engineers and Landscape Architects, ZFA Structural Engineers, The Engineering Partnership (TEP) – Mechanical Engineer, and Brokaw Design – Electrical Engineers also played major roles in the development of this indoor sports complex.

The eastern loading dock will be transformed into an inviting façade with a series of entry portals and glazed openings framing inside activities. The interior design will have a strong “main street” circulation axis around which the various athletic and entertainment facilities engage, enhancing opportunities for interaction between different groups.

In addition to the adaptive reuse of a large warehouse, the remodeled facility will have several sustainable features. A photovoltaic array is planned for the northern roof. Much of the building’s materials will have high percentage of recycled content. Lights will be replaced with LEDs. Mechanical systems are slated to be high energy efficient. Insulation values will be increased, and natural cooling will be incorporated in the south half of the building. Outdoors, bio-swales will be integrated with the landscape to contain and absorb rain runoff.

“Our goal is to see how much fun we can pack into one building,” said Joe Lourdeaux with the Epicenter LLC management group. “With support from our national team of experts, we are developing a regional resource intended to put Santa Rosa on the map for having a comprehensive, safe and secure indoor sports and entertainment center for all ages to enjoy. We’re also looking forward to hosting regional tournaments for lacrosse, soccer and other sports in the future.”
