Sonoma County Airport passenger traffic up 22%
A total of 40,008 passengers flew through Santa Rosa’s Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport in August, down from 44,804 in July, but up for the year, based on new figures from the airport.
The August numbers for 2017 were 21.8 percent above the 32,836 passengers who flew in August 2016, according to monthly numbers released Wednesday. A few charters also serve the airport.
For the year so far, airline passengers totaled 266,155, up 19 percent from 222,966 this time in August last year.
In August, Alaska Airlines reported 28,124 passengers and an 81 percent load factor — the ratio of passengers to seats on each plane. Over the year, Alaska’s ridership was down 3 percent, with 212,321 passengers so far this year.
American Airlines, which began service to Phoenix in February and added a second flight in July, reported 6,390 passengers for the month and 27,104 so far in the year. The carrier’s load factor was 74 percent.
United Airlines, which began service between Santa Rosa (airport code STS) and San Francisco (SFO) June 8, reported 5,166 passengers for the month and a load factor of 60 percent.
Sun Country Airlines, which began once a week service to Minneapolis in August 24, reported 328 passengers, and a load factor of 71 percent.
