Marin Community Clinics said Chief Medical Officer and interim CEO Mitesh Popat assumed the role of CEO on Monday.

Popat, who has been CMO since November 2013 and as associate CEO since February of this year, succeeds Linda Tavaszi, who transitioned from CEO on Aug. 30. Since that time, Popat has served as interim CEO. He will continue to serve as the medical leader until a new chief medical officer is hired.

A board-certified family practice physician, Popat was selected by the clinic’s board of directors following an extensive search.

These qualities, coupled with his superb medical leadership, commitment to quality, and devotion to our clinic and the community we serve, make him the ideal person to serve as our new CEO. The Clinic is in good hands.”

Popat received his medical and public health degrees from Tufts University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Marin Community Clinic, he served as Associate Medical Director of La Clinica de la Raza inVallejo. He is a resident of Novato.

Marin Community Clinics is Marin County’s is a nonprofit federally qualified health center, and largest provider of primary medical and dental care to Marin’s low income population. Its clinicians, other staff and volunteers serve close to 31,000 individuals per year at nine clinic sites across Marin.
