What do you see as the essential role of a financial leader in the current environment?

To maintain the financial stability of our companies, provide information for managers to make good decisions and to mentor our employees

What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in your industry?

The regulatory environment is very stringent and costly. Dealing with the state water board and air quality takes a high level of expertise.

Tell us about the particular challenges and opportunities your organization has met in the recent past.

We recently extended our largest waste & recycling contract after working on it for over four years. During that period our community experienced an earthquake and most recent fires

What advice would you give to young emerging financial leaders?

Work hard on your people and presentation skills. The ability to speak and present your thoughts and ideas is key to managing a company towards success

What’s the best advice for weathering today’s economic environment?

Be cautious and make calculated moves through good planning and reasoning.

How do you think your business will change in the next five years?

Maintaining our current contractual arrangements and dealing with environmental concerns dealing with recycling, clean air and water.

What is a decision you wish you hadn’t made? What did you learn from it?

Moving away from a local vendor. Having vendors that are part of your community helps on business to grow through keeping our dollars local

What is your most memorable business experience?

Being able to work in a family owned and operated business environment.

What is your greatest business success?

Being part of the team that won the City of Napa waste & recycling contract.

What was your toughest business decision?

To leave the CPA firm that I was very instrumental in growing and developing into a strong organization.

What would your friends be surprised to find out about you?

That I love fast cars
