Nearly a half-dozen hotels in the North Bay received high marks from Travel + Leisure’s annual “World’s Best” readers survey, according to the publication, which publishes 12 times a year and reports an annual readership of 4.8 million.

In the Top 10 Resort Hotels in California category, The Brewery Gulch Inn in Mendocino County narrowly missed first place, coming in at No. 2. The 10-room bed-and-breakfast hotel overlooks Mendocino Bay, located off Route 1 and two miles from Mendocino and the Little River Golf Course.

All three of Auberge Resort Collection’s Northern California properties placed in the same category. They are the Solage resort in Calistoga (No. 3); Auberge du Soleil, the brand’s flagship, in Napa (No. 5); and Calistoga Ranch (No. 6).

The Mill Valley-based portfolio of luxury accommodations also includes residences and private clubs in the U.S. and abroad.

The Bardessono Hotel in Yountville placed No. 10, also in the California top hotels category. The 62-room property sits on five acres in its own vineyard, and is located a mile from the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center and the Napa Valley Museum.

At No. 14 in the Top 20 Hotel Brands in the World category is a management company in the process of building its first North Bay location, Montage Healdsburg.

It is slated to open in 2020, according to the website of Laguna Beach-based Montage Hotels & Resorts.

"Readers rated hotel brands on their locations, rooms/facilities, food, service, and overall value," said Travel + Leisure's website. "Still, some hotel chains are able to capitalize more than others on arguably the most important factor in the business: customer loyalty. And it is those brands that get rewarded by T+L readers in our World’s Best survey.”

The survey was developed by its editors and the research firm M&RR and available at from Nov. 6 to March 5, according to the publication, which is owned by The Meredith Group, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa.
