Thirteen North Bay companies made Inc. magazine's list this year of 5,000 fast-growing U.S. private companies, and three were new to the list.
All together, the locally based firms had revenues of $477.0 million last year and employed over 3,500 in the region and elsewhere.
Newcomers to the Inc. 5000 list from the North Bay were two Marin County companies, GRP Financial (No. 532) and Allied Restoration (No. 1,843), and Santa Rosa-based VisiQuate (No. 4,942).
Five more returned to the list for at least the fifth time. That's quite a feat, because only about 12 percent of U.S. companies have growth of over 25 percent annually, according to Inc. Such companies account for roughly half the job creation in the country, the magazine reported.
Two from the North Bay ranked among the rarefied Inc. 500 list this year — Sonoma-based Lexicon Health, at No. 198 and returning to the Inc. 500 for a third time, and Sausalito-based CleanFund, at No. 405 making that list for a third time.
To qualify for the Inc. 5000 list, published Aug. 15, companies had to be independent — not a subsidiary or division — and have revenue growth of at least 50 percent in the past three years. And the firm had to take in at least $100,000 in 2014 and $2 million last year. Companies with over 1,000 percent growth made it into the Inc. 500 list.
The 2018 Inc. 5000 achieved three-year average growth of 538.2 percent, and a median rate of 171.8 percent. The listed companies' aggregate revenue was $206.1 billion in 2017, accounting for 664,095 new jobs over the past three years. The magazine notes that well-known firm Microsoft, Dell, Domino's Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp and Zillow ranked on the Inc. 5000 in the early days of their rise.
