Carneros Resort and Spa (www.carnerosresort.com) completed a $3.5 million renovation of its 6,000-square-foot spa, and it reopened. The spa is reserved for resort guests only. Carneros Resort and Spa is situated on 28 acres, with 100 cottages, suites and private homes.

Vintner Warren Winiarski announced plans to donate $3.3 million to the University of California, Davis, library to help bolster its collection of wine publications.

Winiarski, the founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in Napa whose wines won the 1976 Judgment of Paris competition, will make the gift through his charitable foundation.

The university said the funding would help “preserve and increase access” to its collection that already includes papers by prominent wine writers such as Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson.

“My hope for this gift is that it will create a powerful resource for people who want to see how writers helped develop the wine industry itself and how they influenced the aesthetics of wine,” said Winiarski in a statement. “Wine writers didn’t write just about the regions or types of wine. They gave winemakers the tools they needed to make wines better.”

Tri Counties Bank has started the Carr Fire Fund 2018 account with an initial deposit of $25,000 to benefit victims of the fires ravaging our communities throughout Northern California.

The bank stated donations to the Carr Fire Fund 2018 can be made at any Tri Counties Bank branch or donate online at www.gofundme.com/tcb-2018-carr-fire-fund.

Funds will be distributed to people in need through the United Way of Northern California and local nonprofit emergency relief agencies directly serving fire victims with immediate needs the bank stated.

The four Whole Foods Markets stores in Marin County each gave 5 percent of sales from July 26 — a total gift of over $16,750 — to ExtraFood.org, the nonprofit that picks up excess fresh food from any Marin business or school and immediately delivers the food for people in need.

Since its founding four years ago, ExtraFood has delivered 2,000,000 pounds of food from 200+ donors to 111 sites in Marin, such as senior housing centers, homeless shelters, and after-school programs.

Colin Davidson, store team leader for Whole Foods Market’s Mill Valley Blithedale location added in the company’s announcement, “Whole Foods Market’s Store Giving Program is dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations that address community issues, such as hunger. One in five Marin residents struggle with hunger, yet 40% of all food is wasted from farm to fork. We are delighted to support ExtraFood, which bridges the gap between abundance and need and delivers fresh food 365 days a year for the most vulnerable people in the county.

Plant Prefab, a custom home design and prefabrication company, completed the installation of its latest residential project in Sebastopol.

According to the company, the Plant Prefab-built single-family home was installed in one day. With 1,300 square feet of living space, the LivingHomes C6P, built to the LEED Platinum standard, includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms. All modules were constructed at Plant Prefab’s 62,000-square-foot facility in Rialto and shipped to the build site.

The modules that comprise this home came to the site over 90 percent complete, with all finished electrical and plumbing, millwork and appliances installed, paint and exterior cladding — even tiles in the baths and kitchen.

In 2016, Plant Prefab opened the plant, secured $3.4 million in series A funding led by Obvious Ventures and shipped multiple homes throughout California. Plant Prefab’s next two homes are set to be installed in Burlingame and Los Gatos in the coming months.

The Marin County Department of Public Works will be replacing 1,150 feet of guardrail, as well as adding an additional 300 feet, along Panoramic Highway, a popular route for residents and visitors alike to access a variety of iconic Marin destinations, such as Stinson Beach and Muir Woods.

The stretch being addressed is between mileposts 6.7 and 8.8, near Stinson Beach. The project was anticipated to begin on Aug. 1 and be finished by mid-August.

Federal grant funding through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) will pay for 88.53 percent of the estimated $203,900 project, which is approximately $180,500. The remaining 11.47 percent will come from the County’s Road and Bridge Rehabilitation Fund.

The wine studies program at Santa Rosa Junior College announced its classes for the fall semester.

The program will offer two classes for its introduction to enology. One class, based at the college’s Shone Farm in Forestville, will start Aug. 23. The second class is designed for those working harvest, with online lectures and assignments starting in mid-October.

A class on operating a wine club — creation, maintenance and promotion — will be held on Thursday evenings starting Oct. 11.

A class on pinot noir will be held Wednesday evenings starting Aug. 22. It will be taught by adjunct instructor Bob Fraser.

Napa Farmers Market joins markets across the country in celebrating National Farmers Market Week from Aug. 5-11 with several activities planned.

On Tuesday, Aug. 7, and Saturday, Aug. 11, Napa Farmers Market shoppers will be asked to nominate their favorite farmer, the one whose produce they cannot live without. The winning farmer will have his or her stall fee waived that day. Shoppers will also be able to compete for prizes in the farmers market trivia challenge at the Information Station and there will be a coloring competition for young market goers at the education booth.
