What do you see as the essential role of a financial leader in the current environment?

Trusting your team members and giving them a great deal of responsibility.

What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in your industry?

Local craft is growing very fast. The craft industry is over 6,000 breweries with still 2,500 in the making. Also, every brewery has an IPA or 2.., so the IPA segment within craft is getting very crowded.

Tell us about the particular challenges and opportunities your organization has met in the recent past.

Lagunitas is growing rapidly internationally and is available in more than 20 countries with more to come. We want to ensure that we have the freshest beer available by brewing locally where possible.

What advice would you give to young emerging financial leaders?

Develop your own authentic leadership style and be yourself. Make sure you get some international experience to experience different cultures and meet new people.

What’s the best advice for weathering today’s economic environment?

Have a beer and live in the moment.

How do you think your business will change in the next five years?

We will further build our teams with the right expertise to remain the #1 IPA globally… whilst staying true to our culture and genuine connections.

What is your most memorable business experience?

I was amazed by all the things we do for the community in our taprooms and also how we have built long term relationships with our hop and barley farmers.

What is your greatest business success?

Forming a very capable finance management team that focuses on development of our finance people.

What was your toughest business decision?

Prioritizing certain big capex decisions.

What would your friends be surprised to find out about you?

Listening to classic music, favorite is Ludovico Einaudi.
