Santa Rosa-based Moore Solar/Heating/Cooling returned to the Inc. 5000 list of fast-growing companies for the fifth straight year.

The company had three-year revenue growth, the magazine’s list main ranking criterion, of 296 percent, placing the company at No. 1,581. Revenue was $22.3 million last year.

“We are on target for 39 percent growth (this year),” co-owner Curtis Moore told the Business Journal. “Our budget for 2018 was projecting 30 percent growth. We are far exceeding that as of today.”

Moore Solar/Heating/Cooling is a family-owned and -operated business serving Sonoma, Marin and Napa counties. It was started in 2009 by Curtis Moore, and co-owner Jon Diamond joined in 2011.

The company services, repairs, designs and installation residential and light-commercial heating and air-conditioning systems.

It employed 105 at the end of last year and now has 121, with 10 to 15 more hires planned this year, according to Moore.

Attracting employees in a tight job market is a top concern among the Inc. 5000 companies, according to the magazine. Here’s how the installation company is handling it.

“We believe a strong culture, competitive compensation, and a fun atmosphere is key to attracting talent to our organization,” Moore said. “Every employee in this organization is treated equally, from Jonathan Winterstellar our president to the part-time help sweeping the parking lots. We have created a fun-loving, positive atmosphere for people to come to work. This culture, along with strict expectations and accountability, has proven to be enough to keep everyone giving 100 percent every day.”

Determination is the entrepreneurial characteristic Moore thinks best-describes him.

“We smile in the face of adversity and do whatever it takes to reach our goals as an organization,” he said.
