AXIA Architects has welcomed two new members to their team. Nanette Names graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts, major in architecture and entered her first job as an architectural model maker in San Francisco. Over the past 20 years she has been actively engaged in the profession of architecture in Sonoma County, specializing in K-12 facilities with a focus on campus-wide modernizations and athletic facilities.

Erin Smith studied architecture at Montana State University and recently moved to Sonoma County from San Francisco. She has experience in commercial and residential architecture and is currently assisting a number of AXIA's high tech and biotech clients.   Additionally, through her time spent with Architecture for Humanity, she is a contributing writer to the sustainable handbook Design Like You Give a Damn II.  She is LEED accredited and will soon begin testing for her architectural license.Construction

General contractor Plath & Company of San Rafael has named partner J. B. Ferrarone as president.  Mr. Ferrarone, who has nearly 20 years industry experience, joined Plath & Company in 2006 and became a partner in 2011. He started his career with Hobbs, Inc., where he honed his project management and leadership skills before relocating to the Bay Area. He received his BA in Construction Management from Gettysburg College. Founding partner Steve Plath remains active in the company as president emeritus, and Tom Hall, a partner since 1991, has been named vice president. Longtime partner Bill Ballas will retire in January 2015.Education

The Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC)) Arts and Humanities Department announced that SRJC’s nationally recognized forensics team has recently earned six awards and two tournament championships at their annual speech invitational. Fourteen colleges and universities, as well as visiting professors, students, and guests gathered at SRJC’s Santa Rosa campus, from October 10 to 11, for the 46th annual speech and debate invitational. In open division NFA-LD (National Forensics Association Lincoln-Douglas) debate, SRJC’s Dallas Phillips persisted through the tournament without losing a single ballot, winning 11 for 11. Mr. Phillips was named open division champion in NFA-LD, defeating teams from UC Berkeley, St. Mary’s, and others.  SRJC’s James Rogers finished in second place, and Olivia Nielsen advanced to the quarter-final elimination rounds obtaining fourth place in open division NFA-LD.  In the open division parliamentary debate tournament, Dallas Phillips and James Rogers worked collectively and tactfully to capture an additional championship title.  In addition to the two tournaments, SRJC’s Melissa Debret won second place obtaining a silver medal for novice impromptu speaker. In novice division parliamentary debate, Fletcher Wingfield and Ferdous Joya finished in second place with Wingfield receiving an individual award for debating excellence. Also, Ross Jacobs and Abdiel Lopez advanced to the semi-final round and were awarded third place in novice division parliamentary debate.Finance

Redwood Credit Union (RCU) has named Jeff Hudson as vice president of retail lending, a role which includes planning and directing all of RCU’s retail lending operations including mortgage lending, auto and consumer loans, credit cards and other non-commercial loan products. Mr. Hudson has over 20 years of local financial services and lending experience, including management positions at Westamerica, Washington Mutual and JP Morgan Chase. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Seattle University, with an emphasis in international relations, and a minor in economics.Nonprofits

BI Incorporated staff members Tiffany Sebring, Kristi Price, Amanda Owens (district manager), and Sahira Salina (shown preparing to serve meals at the Napa Salvation Army), were among those who recently volunteered time and donated $5,000 to the charity organization. The Napa County County Community Corrections Service Center (CCSC) is operated by BI Incorporated in partnership with the Napa County Probation Department and provides reentry programming to probationers.

Additionally, Patrese Scott, program manager of the Napa County CCSC, presented Shirley King, director of the Napa Valley Food Bank, a part of Community Action of Napa Valley, with a donation for $2,500. Recently, BI staff and Napa County CCSC program participants visited the Napa Storehouse, to help stock the pantry's shelves. The Sonoma County Children’s Village  has appointed two new members to its board of directors. Jeff Okrepkie, a native of Santa Rosa, attended Arizona State University. He is the communications director and bond department administrator at George Petersen Insurance Agency, a board member for The Active 20-30 Club of Santa Rosa #50, and The National New Charter Chair for Active 20-30 US and Canada. 

Sean Ramsey, attorney at law, received his JD from Empire School of Law. His areas of expertise are business nonprofit law and family immigration law.  He is also a trained court appointed advocate for children in foster care. He was raised in Sebastopol.Senior living

Fountaingrove Lodge, the nation’s first luxury LGBT Continuing Care Retirement Community,  announced the appointment Kevin Hogan as its new executive director. Bringing to the position more than 16 years of experience in senior care operational management, Mr. Hogan will focus on projects that will institute Fountaingrove Lodge as a national beacon for LGBT senior communities. He has managed all aspects of operations as an executive director, regional administrator, and president of operations for several large health and human services organizations within the private and non-profit sectors. Mr. Hogan holds numerous industry licensures and certifications, including: skilled nursing administrator, residential care facility for the elderly administrator, certified aging services professional and certified aging in place specialist. He is currently enrolled in the masters of business administration program at Dominican University.
