SAUSALITO - AltaRock Energy has suspended the drilling of well E-7, the first well planned as part of its engineered geothermal systems (EGS) demonstration project in the Geysers, due to a number of physical difficulties resulting from geologic anomalies in that particular location.
The company plans to continue development of its EGS technology and is evaluating alternative well locations at the Geysers and elsewhere for demonstration of the technology.
"We believe EGS is a clean, renewable energy alternative capable of reducing our economy's dependence on fossil fuels and creating a more sustainable future, and this technology is the best way of tapping this non-carbon-based source power," the company said in a statement.
