Wine resolution passes

CALIFORNIA – Senate Joint Resolution 34, already approved by the senate, was unanimously approved by the assembly this month. The resolution was authored by Sen. Patricia Wiggins (D-Santa Rosa), chair of the Senate Select Committee on California's Wine Industry, and Alex Padilla (D-Pacoima), committee vice chair.

SJR 34 urges Congress to defeat House Resolution 5034, which would restrict legal challenges to state laws governing the interstate shipment of wine, severely limit consumer choice of California wine throughout the nation and restrict market access for California wineries that cannot secure wholesale distribution.

The resolution will next be sent to the president, vice president, U.S. Senate President Pro Tempore, Speaker of the House and senators and representatives from California
